When people ask me how I had the courage to quit my law firm job to create a word game and bring it to market, I tell them that I am an entrepreneur at heart. It took my JOCRF aptitude test results for me to understand that I needed to use my natural abilities in my career to feel fulfilled. I have told so many people about how JOCRF changed my life and now I would like to share that story with you.
When I took the JOCRF tests, I was at a career crossroads. I had taken a break from my career as an attorney to accompany my husband (also a JOCRF client) when his company relocated us to NJ and then to France. When we moved back to the United States, I wanted to resume my career, but I was reluctant to return to a traditional law firm job. I took the JOCRF test to gain insight into my career choices. Shortly after I took the JOCRF test, a colleague with a prestigious law firm approached me about a new program they had developed and I decided to give it a try. However, the work was not fulfilling, and I ultimately realized it was because my strongest aptitudes were being suppressed. I finally understood what it would take for me to have a fulfilling career, and it was not working in a traditional role. So, in a leap of faith, I quit my law firm job and brought Redonkulary®! The Game of imag-ilar-ious Words! to market.
I created Redonkulary® as a low-tech boredom buster to entertain my kids on a long trip without resorting to hours of screen time. I have spent the past year developing this creative word game and launched it commercially last summer following a successful Kickstarter campaign. The process of developing a game into a product has been extremely fulfilling for me and the game has been a huge success! I believe this is because I am using my aptitudes in my work. My strongest aptitudes are Foresight and Ideaphoria, so I needed an outlet for my ideas and a long-term goal that feeds my soul. My results also show that I prefer work where I can be social and enterprising.
At the end of the test, the JOCRF test administrator gave me these results and mentioned several options where I could find fulfillment, including becoming an entrepreneur. I thought, “What? An entrepreneur?! I didn’t even realize this was a job! How would I become an entrepreneur?” While it initially came as a shock to me that I could find happiness and success as an entrepreneur, I eventually came to realize that this was true.
I am grateful to JOCRF for helping me find my passion. I never knew work could be so much fun!
